Once we are rooted—safe in our body and anchored to the Earth—we begin to feel again. We soften. We sense. We remember we are alive.
The Sacral Chakra leads us from the Basic survival to pleasure. This is where our inner child lives alongside passion and creativity.
🧡 The Center of Feeling and Flow
Known as Svadhishthana in Sanskrit, the sacral chakra sits just below the navel in the pelvic

bowl. It governs our emotional flow, intimacy, sensuality, creativity, and our “relationship with” all that we encounter—ourselves, others, and life itself.
This is the seat of desire—both creative and relational—and the home of the inner artist, lover, and feeler.
When in balance, the sacral expresses as regulated emotions, healthy polarity between the masculine and feminine aspects of the field, and the ability to move through life with fluidity. We feel alive, inspired, connected, and joyful.
In distortion, we may experience numbness or overwhelm, difficulty with intimacy, guilt or shame around pleasure, or a lack of creativity. Blocks in this center often reveal themselves as creative stagnation, relational challenges, or disconnection from joy and spontaneity.
Once the sacral holds a steady balance and open flow, the energy is free to lift to the throat chakra, where we focus on Higher Creative Expression. In Esoteric Healing, we always balance the Sacral to the Throat at the end of the session to support these centers working together.
🌊 What I’ve seen in Session
The sacral is closely tied to the astral field and emotional body. A vast majority of the energetic distortions humanity holds are in the astral field, and because of the sacral’s strong association with this astral field, we often have quite a bit of work to attend to in this center.
When imbalanced, people may feel easily swept away by emotions or drawn into drama. Because this center governs the polarity of masculine and feminine, distortions often appear asymmetrically in the body—left and right holding different energetic charges.
The sacral also reveals itself through our relationships, not just sexually but with family, community, and humanity at large. When distorted, self-worth may be tethered to external validation rather than inner knowing.
Physically, this center relates to the reproductive system, lower back, hips, and legs. The ovaries and testes are its endocrine correspondence. Distortions can manifest as reproductive issues, back pain, emotional eating, substance use, hyper-flexibility, or anxiety and panic.
Where the root declares I am, the sacral whispers: I feel.
🔶 A Creative and Emotional Portal
When this chakra is open, we feel more alive. Music stirs us. Laughter comes more easily. Tears flow without shame. Desire and creativity awaken.
The sacral reminds us that it is safe to feel—and it is safe to enjoy. Even in difficult seasons, tending this watery center is like returning to a gentle stream that never stops moving.
As my teacher Diane has called it: this is the ocean of limitless possibilities.
🧘♀️ Practices to Nourish the Sacral Chakra
Here are a few ways to tend to this watery center:
Connect with water. Take a bath, visit a stream, drink intentionally, or sit by the ocean. Water is your element.
Explore movement. Hip circles, dance, or gentle yoga help activate this space.
Use the seed sound VAM. Tone it softly or chant with intention.
Work with the color orange. Visualize a glowing orb of orange light in the pelvis, or wear orange to remind yourself of vitality and play.
Essential Oils associated with the Sacral: Jasmine, Patchouli, Cinnamon, Coriander
Make art, cook, garden, write. Do something creative without pressure—just to feel.
Feel your feelings. Let emotion arise without labeling it as wrong. All feeling is welcome here.
🌺 A Question to Sit With
Where have I suppressed my feelings, creativity, or desires? And what would it look like to let just a little more in?
💠 In Closing
The sacral chakra reminds us that emotion is sacred, and creation is healing. You are not too much. Your desires are not a burden. Your joy is medicine for you and for the world.
I've recorded a short Sacral Chakra practice if you'd like some support working with this center. Sacral Chakra Practice
I’d love to hear how the sacral chakra shows up for you. Do you notice flow, creativity, or places where you’ve held back? Share your reflections, questions, or experiences in the comments—or simply hold the intention and trust the conversation will unfold in the way it needs to.
💌 In our next post, we’ll rise to the Solar Plexus—the radiant center of power, will, and self-worth.
